How to Install Henry

Operating System Requirements

Henry is supported on the following Microsoft Operating Systems (current latest Service Packs in brackets)

  • Vista (SP1)
  • Windows 7 (SP1)
  • Windows 8
  • Windows 8.1
  • Windows 10

Microsoft .NET 2.0 is required. This will already be installed if you are using any of the above operating systems.

Optional: The HenryOverlayTool (HenryOverlayTool.exe and ShowUnicode.exe), which extend the file input and output capabilities of Henry, require that Microsoft .NET 4.0 and Microsoft Office are installed. At least MS Office version 10.0.6626.0 is required - this includes MS Office 2003 and all later versions. Henry itself can be used without the HenryOverlayTool.

The steps to install Henry are as follows

  • Check that the operating system requirements (above) have been met
  • Install Microsoft .net2.0 if not already present. It can be downloaded from
  • Start Installing Henry by running the Henry_<x>.exe file that you have downloaded, where <x> is, for example, Ref or Demo.


  • Choose the directory Henry should be installed to. The default is normally suitable.


  • Click "Install" to start


  • Wait while the install proceeds:


  • The installation has finished:


If you have a dongle (a green USB stick)

  • Plug in your dongle and follow the instructions at How To Set up a Dongle
  • Check the box to run Henry immediately
  • Click "Finish" to run Henry

If you do not have a dongle you must activate over the internet (this ties Henry to a single PC)

  • Check the box to run Henry immediately
  • Click "Finish" to run Henry
  • Start the process to Activate Henry

Note that msi installation files are also available for system administrators who need to be able to provide unattended installs.
